KBTU Researchers and Master's Students Strengthen International Scientific Presence and Publish Innovative R&D Projects in AI and IoT
Project research groups operating under the SDG Center and the Department of SDG Center Projects at Kazakh-British Technical University continue to demonstrate outstanding results in the international scientific arena. Young scientists and Master's students majoring in Information Systems — Aidos Utenov, Almaz Kundakbayev, and Dmitriy Kan — have successfully presented their research developments at top global conferences in 2026, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and environmental science. KBTU's research ecosystem, developed around the IoT Lab, aims to create applied digital solutions aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Within these project groups, university Master's students develop and implement machine learning models, edge computing, and cloud frameworks to address complex industrial and environmental challenges.
The researchers' work has received official recognition across key international scientific platforms:
• 1st International Online Conference on Forecasting (IOCFC 2026): Information Systems Master's student Aidos Utenov participated in the inaugural forecasting conference organized by academic publisher MDPI, receiving a certificate for his active contribution to advancing predictive analytics methodologies.
• International Congress on Management Information Systems (IConMIS 2026): The research paper by Master's student Almaz Kundakbayev, titled “Reproducible Simulation-Based Evaluation of an IoT Architecture for Anomaly Monitoring of a Six-Axis Industrial Robot”, was officially approved for an oral presentation at the international congress in Antalya, Türkiye.
• 8th International Electronic Conference on Atmospheric Sciences (ECAS-8 2026): The scientific paper by Master's student Dmitriy Kan, titled “Edge-Cloud IoT Framework for Energy Efficiency and Indoor Air Quality Monitoring in Smart Buildings”, successfully passed peer review under the Indoor Air Quality section and was accepted for presentation at the 8th International Conference on Atmospheric Sciences, also hosted by MDPI.
Publishing and presenting research at platforms such as MDPI, IConMIS, and ECAS-8 carries strategic importance for the entire academic ecosystem. For Kazakh-British Technical University, the achievements of these Master's students confirm the high quality of academic training within the Information Systems program and reinforce KBTU's reputation as a leading research-intensive technical university in Central Asia. Integrating Master's students into real R&D projects allows the university to translate fundamental education into practical engineering solutions. For the KBTU SDG Center and the Department of SDG Center Projects, promoting these research results proves that the Center serves not only as an educational initiative, but as an active scientific research platform. Studies in smart buildings, industrial robotics, and environmental monitoring directly support UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Furthermore, engaging young researchers in the global scientific exchange opens broad academic and career horizons, fostering a new generation of engineers capable of addressing global technological challenges and ensuring a sustainable future for the region.
