KBTU Debuts in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026

Kazakh-British Technical University has entered the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 for the first time, ranking 630th among Asian universities and 15th among universities in Kazakhstan. The 2026 rankings include 2,016 universities from 110 countries worldwide
The results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 were presented during the international forum "UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026," held on September 23-25, 2026, in Baku, Azerbaijan, hosted by the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University


The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an international rating dedicated to evaluating universities' contributions to sustainable development. The rating methodology covers key areas of a sustainable university's operations: infrastructure and campus, energy and climate change, waste and water management, transportation, and education and research


KBTU’s inaugural participation in UI GreenMetric represents a continuation of the university’s systematic efforts toward implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). KBTU develops projects at the intersection of technology and sustainability, including Smart City initiatives, the circular economy, sustainable energy, water resources management, and AI-based digital solutions for achieving the SDGs. A special place on KBTU's social agenda is occupied by the UNDP project "Empowering Afghan Women through Education and Training," implemented by UNDP with financial support from the European Union, in which KBTU has been participating since 2020. KBTU has delivered undergraduate, MBA, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs under this initiative, with over 50 Afghan women students having already earned degrees and/or certificates from KBTU. The project directly contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)


Thus, KBTU’s debut in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings marks a new milestone in international recognition for the university’s systematic commitment to sustainable development


KBTU’s inclusion in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 stands as its first international achievement in this benchmark and a new step in enhancing KBTU's international profile as a modern university focused on sustainable development and global cooperation.
