The "Transdisciplinary Approaches to Mobility and Global Health" initiative is an elite joint funding program established by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (Denmark), Wellcome (UK), and the Volkswagen Foundation (Germany). The call backs multi-perspective, international research addressing the critical intersections of human/animal mobility and global health determinants. The funding consortium aims to break down conventional academic silos, requiring projects to cross geographical boundaries and integrate non-academic stakeholders, local communities, and field practitioners directly into the research design.

Eligibility

The program features an inclusive global framework explicitly prioritizing developing and transitional regions:
- Eligible Applicants: Open to international interdisciplinary research consortiums. The program explicitly targets active collaborations between researchers from High-Income Countries (HICs) and Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), making public health institutes and universities in Kazakhstan fully eligible as primary research partners.
- Disciplinary Scope: Projects must seamlessly combine Social Sciences with Life & Health Sciences. Purely clinical trials or isolated sociological surveys are excluded.
- Stakeholder Integration: Proposals must involve local communities, civil society, non-governmental actors, or health policymakers within the target regions.

Priority Research Fields
- Health challenges, mental health, and continuity of medical care among labor migrants, refugees, and populations displaced by conflict or climate change.
- One Health Perspective: The role of international trade, mobility of live animals, and agricultural goods in the spread of zoonotic and vector-borne diseases.
- Co-development of novel transdisciplinary research methods, evaluating data quality, ethics, and participatory community modeling.
