About the Call for Grant
The EPSRC Overseas Travel Grants (OTG) provide dedicated funding for researchers to travel internationally to study new scientific techniques at recognised research centres outside the UK, or to start and develop long-term international research collaborations. The primary goal is to form global partnerships that will lead to future high-impact joint research proposals (e.g., building consortia for Horizon Europe bids). Visits can be made to international universities or commercial industrial organisations.
Eligibility
Applications are subject to standard UKRI/EPSRC eligibility criteria:
- The Principal Investigator (Project Lead) must be based at an eligible UK research organisation (university or recognised institute).
- International partners based outside the UK (including Kazakhstan and global institutions) must act as the host institution for the visiting researcher.
The grant normally supports a single project lead, but additional staff costs can be requested if fully justified. Purely attending conferences is excluded.

Funding Details & Application Timeline
💰 Funding Amount & Eligible Costs:
There is no upper limit on the overall funding amount you can request. Eligible expenses include international travel, subsistence, visa costs, and the project lead's salary/indirect costs during the project. Consumables and hardware (like laptops) are generally not covered.
⏱️ Grant Duration & Timing:
There is no upper limit on grant length, but the scheme does not support single visits of 6 months or longer, or multiple visits exceeding 12 months in total.
📅 Application Deadline:
No closing dates (Open on a rolling basis). Applications are accepted year-round.
📊 Process & Review Window:
Proposals are assessed via a fast-tracked peer-review process. Applicants must apply at least 16 weeks prior to the first proposed international visit to allow for processing and approval.
